Learning to walk before you can run!

Anyone reading this may notice that my last entry was some time ago and if I remember rightly, the last blog post was about my shiny new trainers and how they were going to motivate me to keep going over the winter months!

Wishful thinking! I used my trainers twice followed by a swift visit to the gym in January.

So, I dusted off my not so new trainers this morning accompanied by my joggers and a hoody.  For those of you now thinking that this was followed by a run, you'll be disappointed.  As with every time I 'get back on it' it started with a power walk!  Just under 3 miles at a reasonable pace.

For those reading this who are thinking about doing a run some time this year then I would always advise to start with some swift walking.  Once you're out there, joints moving and your heart rate goes up then you'll feel so much more motivated... In comparison with trying to start off by running, getting out of breath and feeling disappointed that you haven't acheived anything.

My advise for anyone starting out is to start off with baby steps... This way you'll always keep achieving!  And of course you'll lower the risk of injury!  As the saying says 'learn to walk before you can run'.  Have a look in the right column of this blog for the training plan that helped me get started for my first ever half marathon in 2010!

So the next step for me is to improve my nutrition and get myself booked onto my first race of 2012... Race for Life!  Watch this space for my just giving page!
